“Every farm has a story, and mine began with Charlsie.”

Charlsie is a real miniature Highland cow I raised from a baby on our small farm in Mississippi. Charlsie the Highland tells her true story in rhyme and the sweet friends she meets along the way.

In my early 20s, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, and it felt like my world and all my plans were changing faster than I could keep up. My parents knew how much I loved animals and caring for something that needed me. So for my birthday in 2021, they gave me the most precious tiny calf on a bottle, and she couldn’t have come at a sweeter time. Our little Highland farm has grown since then, but Charlsie will always hold a special place in my heart as my first cowgirl. Every page of this book comes from real moments we shared.

How did she get her name? Charlsie was named after Charleston, Mississippi, and her name is pronounced “CHARL-see.” All of our miniature cows on the farm are named after a place in Mississippi.
